VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT

The Tech CFO Network (formerly the Greater Washington CFO Networking Group or GWCNG) was created by and for Technology CFOs for the express purpose of providing a vendor-free, interactive platform to facilitate networking, discussion, and collaboration amongst the areas technology-oriented CFOs in the Greater Washington DC Area.

With 150+ members, this CFO-only platform brings together the top financial officers from technology-oriented companies in private events and dinners that promote interaction, exchange and dialogue. Additionally, the platform includes a members-only website that serves as a resource for career development and opportunity.

The TCN was founded in early 2013 by seasoned CFOs Steve Vintz (currently CFO of Tenable), Jim Tholen (CFO of Broadsoft) and Todd Headley (former CFO of Sourcefire).  The activities and direction of the TCN is driven by a Steering Committee that meets every three weeks.

On August 9, 2023, we hosted a webinar titled "AI for CFOs: The Risks and Opportunities," led by Brian Daum, Babel Street's CFO. Our guest AI specialists included Rama Elluru of the SCSP and Dr. Catherine Havasi of Babel Street.

TODD HEADLEY
Todd was the CFO of Sourcefire, a Columbia, MD based cyber security firm (NASDAQ: FIRE) from 2003 until it's acquisition by Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) in October of 2013.  From 1992-2003 Todd held key financial management positions in 4 local area venture-backed technology start-ups, each of which was acquired - Riverbed Technologies, Roadshow, BioNetrix and POMS.  Todd has helped build and guide companies from their early stages through significant growth periods, and he has handled several M&A transactions, negotiated significant technology partnership arrangement and spear-headed international expansion.  Todd began his career in 1985 as a public accountant with Arthur Andersen. He is a CPA and holds a BS degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech.  Aside from his professional roles, Todd is also a strong advocate of mentoring relationships and dedicates a great deal of his time to building these relationships with anyone who reaches out to him. 
JIM THOLEN
Jim currently serves as the CFO of BroadSoft, Inc (NASDAQ: BSFT), the leading global provider of real-time communications software to telecommunications service providers, where he leads the company's financial and administrative operations. Most recently, Jim guided the succesful execution of BroadSoft's IPO in June 2010.  Jim brings more than 20 years of financial and strategic management experience to the Millennial Media Board.  Prior to BroadSoft, Tholen served as CFO and COO at NetSec, Inc., acquired by MCI; and as CFO and CSO for Career Builder.com, where he played an integral role in growing the company to their industry-leading position on the job market.  Jim also serves as the Chairman of Millennial Media's Audit Committee. 
STEVE VINTZ
Steve Vintz is an accomplished leader with more than 25 years of financial, operational and strategic planning experience working with growth companies in the technology industry. As CFO of Tenable, he oversees finance, legal, human resources and information technology worldwide.

Previously, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Vocus, Inc. from 2001 until its sale in June 2014. During his tenure, he positioned the company for 40 consecutive quarters of revenue growth and rapid expansion, including an IPO, a follow-on offering and several acquisitions. Prior to Vocus, Steve was vice president of strategic planning and analysis at Snyder Communications, where he played a lead role in over 45 acquisitions and oversaw its growth from $86 million to nearly $1 billion in revenue. He also worked for Ernst & Young’s entrepreneurial services/middle market group in Washington, DC and Baltimore.  Steve has received numerous awards and distinctions during his career, including being named Northern Virginia Technology Council's public company CFO of the year. He is a certified public accountant and holds a BBA from Loyola College Sellinger School of Business.

ELIGIBILITY

Requests for membership in the Tech CFO Network are reviewed by the Steering Committee. Membership guidelines generally include the following:

  • I am a CFO at a technology, media or telecom company in the greater Washington area.
  • I agree to keep my member data current.
  • I agree to the TCN mantra of “give to get”- giving advice and counsel, not just receiving it.
  • I have read the TCN website code of conduct.
  • I agree to inform the TCN if I no longer meet the eligibility requirements.
